Comprehensive Eye Examinations We provide complete eye care for both adults and children. Our comprehensive eye examinations check your eyes inside and out for glaucoma, cataracts and all other eye diseases as well as high blood pressure, diabetes and other systemic diseases. After a thorough evaluation, our doctors will provide you with eyeglasses or contact lenses to meet your visual needs. Technology is rapidly changing the eye care industry. We utilize the latest in diagnostic equipment and are committed to keeping up with whatever advances will come next.
Our doctors have experience fitting all types of contact lenses. We fit soft lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, bifocal lenses, and lenses for astigmatism. Based on your prescription and eye shape, we will choose a lens that is right for you. Our knowledgeable technicians give extensive training to new contact lens wearers. We keep many different types of contact lenses stocked in our office.
Our optical laboratory has the latest in equipment to not only fabricate your glasses, but to maintain and repair them should they become broken or damaged. We are able to tint, coat, harden and edge spectacle lenses. We are able to provide you with any frame or lens design available. Our highly qualified staff is able to adjust and fit your glasses for extended comfort and vision. In conjunction with local eye surgeons, our office provides many surgical services such as cataract surgery, laser surgery and refractive surgery. Our doctors will evaluate your condition and refer you to the specialist who meets your surgical needs. Post-operatively, our doctors will work closely with your surgeon to monitor your healing and recovery. Additionally, we have established relationships with retinal specialists to manage conditions such as: retinal detachments, retinal tears and hemorrhages. Our office provides emergency services for eye infections and eye injuries. Please call our office during office hours or our emergency number after hours or on weekends. One of our doctors will examine you to assess the extent of the injury or infection. Treatment may include medications and supportive care. Follow-up visits to monitor your recovery will be scheduled as needed.
Cataracts: The natural lens in the eye gradually becomes less clear as we get older. When opacities develop in the lens and the lens gets too hazy, vision will be impaired. Our office can diagnose and manage cataract care. When the cataract affects the vision to the extent that you cannot read or see distant objects comfortably, we will recommend cataract surgery. Our office co-manages with cataract specialists that are proven experts in cataract surgery. Cataract surgery can provide you with a bright new world of vision. Glaucoma: Glaucoma gradually destroys the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. The greatest danger of glaucoma stems from the fact that the disease is painless and without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred. We always monitor for glaucoma during routine eye examination. Tests include checking the pressure of the eye, screening for peripheral vision defects and analyzing the appearance of the optic nerve. If you are diagnosed with glaucoma, we typically prescribe medications that lower the eye pressure. Most forms of glaucoma are successfully treated with eye drops. Laser treatments and eye surgery are secondary treatments that offer alternative ways to treat more advanced glaucoma. Diabetes: Diabetic patients should have a dilated retinal examination each year. Laser treatments have proven to slow the progression of retinal eye disease for many patients. Diabetes often stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye, which ultimately leak and damage the retina. If this condition is discovered early, laser treatment can destroy these vessels. We have the latest instruments used to detect changes in the back of the eye. If we discover advancing diabetic eye disease that can be treated or needs further evaluation, we will refer you for consultation and further testing to a board certified retinal specialist. We perform pre-operative and post-operative care for Envision lasik patients. Dr. Ketan Patel performs lasik right here in our office! We provide eye care to children of all ages; from infants and toddlers to school age children. The American Optometric Association suggests that children should have their eyes examined before age 1, at age 3, and then once per year after starting school. We have a very large selection of children's frames.
What is C.V.S.? Computer Vision Syndrome consists of the eye and vision problems experienced during computer use. What cause C.V.S.? Computer Vision Syndrome can be caused by problems with the patient’s eye alignment, focusing, the need for corrective lenses, or eye health problems and/or the visual ergonomics or setup of their computer workstation. Symptoms of C.V.S. include eyestrain, blurred vision, headaches, glare, dry or irritated eyes, neck and shoulder pain, and contact lens discomfort. When you present to our office for a computer vision exam, our Computer Vision Specialist will gather information to evaluate the ergonomics of your computer environment. This in conjunction with your specialized eye examination will allow proper advice and treatment to be given so that you may work more comfortably and efficiently while at your computer.
Our doctors visit Garvey Manor, Valley View, Morrison's Cove, and Homewood nursing homes to provide eyecare to their residents.
